What is Thermal Destratification?

Destratificator is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to lower energy costs and create an exceptionally comfortable thermal environment for inhabitants during both heating and cooling seasons. A destratificator gently directs the conditioned air at the ceiling to a required place at floor level.
Cold Weather Problem Cold Weather Fix
Naturally in any heated building, warm air migrates to the ceiling. On the average the temperature increases by 0.5 -1°F for each elevated foot. This means, for example, it can be as much as 10-20°F hotter at the ceiling of a 20 ft. high facility as compared to the floor. The painful economic reality is that you pay for energy (heat) that is quite literally going through the roof (fig.1). Moving the superheated air at the ceiling - where it obviously doesn’t do anybody any good - down to the floor level with a destratificator is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to lower utility bills drastically with the added bonus of generating a more comfortable environment for people inside.
Hot Weather Problem Hot Weather Fix
An added factor is introduced in buildings with air conditioning. The cold air coming out of the ductworks at the ceiling is fighting the rising warmer air. The traditional solution has always been to install lots of refrigeration units as a way to force out the rising hot air with warm air. It has been estimated that up to 40% of the input energy for air conditioning is just wasted as it pumps out massive cold air volumes in attempts to overpower warm air that is formed at the floor. Installing Destratificators near the cold air registers will actively direct the conditioned air where required, which results in tremendous energy savings. Moreover, it reduces wear and tear and prolongs service life of the already installed air conditioning equipment due to lower operating load.

How Many do we Need?

The rule of thumb for the healthy environment is to provide indoor air circulation once or twice per hour. So to determine the number of the destratification needed use this formula:

DRF-OV Design
  • Axial fan combines Extremely Low Energy Demand and Powerful Air Jet.
  • High-Efficient external rotor motor made in Germany.
  • Equipped with built-in Thermal Overheating Protection with automatic restart. Motor Ball Bearings with selective lubricant oil ensure low-noise and Maintenance-Free fan operation.
  • Durable metal case with polymer coating for Superior Corrosion Resistance.
  • The fastening design is so simple that you can install the DRF-OV fan with your own hands easy and quickly. The special Rotating Mounting Bracket is used for reliable fixation of the destratification fan at any angle not only to the ceiling, but to the wall.
  • Tether for additional mounting Safety.
  • Build-in Temperature Control turns the fan on only when hot air is collected under the ceiling (Models DRF-OV...U).

Control

All VENTS destratification fans DRF-VKM & VK & OV can be supplied with a Built-in Speed Controller with Temperature Sensor (Models with "U" option). When the temperature exceeds the set point the speed controller starts the fan on at the set speed. As the air temperature drops below the set point the controller switches the fan off. As soon as the air temperature rises again and the temperature sensor exceeds the previously set temperature, the controller starts the motor ON automatically and it runs at the set speed. As a result, the fans only run when needed. Temperature settings range from 70°F to 95°F.
